5K Race

They gave me a trophy!!

I signed up to be a member and ran in the 5K race this morning. There were 120 people in the race and I finished 83rd with a time of 31:53. It was pretty cold this morning, but once we started racing it felt nice, and I didn't fall in the muddy spots under the bridges, so that is good.

I walked under the bridges and also for 1 minute just before mile two because I wasn't keeping a good pace. After the race, they had lots of snacks for everyone and then they gave trophies to the top people overall and the top 3 in each age range/gender. Since there were only 2 20-24 yr old girls, I got a second place trophy!

Kinda cool/kinda silly since it also means last, but I did finish and I had a good time for me. So, that was my excitement for the day. :-D

My week so far

Tuesday, I got to go knit at the Woolie Ewe. It was fun. I worked a little on my sock and talked a lot. :) It was fun. There were only 5 people, so it was nice to not be so crowded for once.

Today, I did a training run for Saturday's 5K. I went 3.1 miles on the treadmill in 34:40. Hopefully I can go a bit faster on Saturday, but mostly I just hope I don't have to walk since it is outside.

It is rainy weather here right now and they say it could last through Saturday. :( That would make running less fun, but if there's no lightening, I think I will go anyway.

I spent the last two evenings knitting, so tonight, I am back to learning C#. Hopefully that will go ok. I have been putting it off because it is a bit confusing in the last chapter, but I really want to be able to update the SportsTracker program.

10K!

Today I ran the furthest I have ever gone! 6.2 miles aka 10KM. I'm pretty excited about that accomplishment since I could not imagine that before. My last really long run was 4 miles and that was about a month ago. Since then because of illness and hurting legs, I have been trying to take it easy until now. :)

One book I read says that if you train properly and have run a 6.2 miles, then adding 20 for the marathon is a very realistic goal. w00t! So I feel pretty good about myself today.

Today is also the first time we have eaten anything from the herb garden. I put rosemary, thyme, and parsley on our steaks and chives in my baked potato. It was really tasty and fun because I grew them. Well, sort of grew them since I bought the plants last week.

First post

This is the obligatory first post, so here's a little about me and what I will write about.

I started running in October and am going to go race in a 5K on Saturday! :-D I'm quite proud of myself and my progress given that I couldn't run more than a few minutes before. I have a training plan and am trying to prepare for the White Rock Marathon in Dallas.

I am also a knitter. Lately, I have worked on a sock. I say a sock rather than a pair of socks because I haven't gotten very far. The first attempt, (sorry - no picture) was quite nice and most of the way across the foot, but it was too small, so I frogged the whole thing and went up a size in needles for the cuff. The next version is being knit on two circs which is going fantastically well.

The pattern came from knitty.com and is called pomatomous or something close to that. :)

And, I started an herb garden on my patio last weekend. So far everything is growing well except one of the basil plants.

Last week I also went to the library and got a book about C# programming, so that is what I have been working on. There is a Linux app called sportstracker that I think needs more updates, so I am going to see if I can fix it to do some other things.

Ok, more updates to come.
